In this Education section of the website, we have included a LOT of information on varying types of food allergies and intolerances however please understand that the primary focus of FACET is to educate about IgE-mediated, life threatening food allergies and anaphylaxis.

Our mission is to improve the social aspect of food allergy through support, education, and advocacy as a group of individuals and families affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis.

FACET strives to accomplish our mission with the following education and community outreach goals:

Education & Outreach


  • Increase food allergy awareness in communities across East Tennessee.
  • Increase food allergy awareness in local restaurants and dining facilities.
  • Increase food allergy awareness in local public and private schools, preschools, child care facilities and after-school programs.
  • Increase food allergy awareness with first responders, health care providers and school nurses
  • Create a library outreach program consisting of food allergy related books for children.
  • Support the advancement of food allergy research and organizations that benefit the food allergy community through community outreach initiatives, health care and support group affiliations.
  • Expand our reach and increase involvement by preparing more advocates for leadership,
    committee and general volunteer opportunities.

The statistics are startling. 15 million Americans have food allergy, a potentially life-threatening disease. Almost 6 million of them are children. Every 3 minutes, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency department.
